Kissimmee, FL – Mecum Auction’s Kissimmee auction is heating up. The auctions are taking place January 6-18 in Kissimmee, Florida.

Here are a few of the standout vehicles going under the hammer.

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Studio Concept Split Window Coupe

1963 Chevrolet Corvette Studio Concept Split Window Coupe Designed by Automotive Legend Peter Brock and Refined with Features and Elements From His Early 1957 Concept Sketches, Peter Brock’s Personal Car Mecum Auctions

THE STORY

Of all the legendary sports cars produced on either side of the Atlantic following World War II, the 1963-67 Corvette Sting Ray stands as an absolute landmark in the development of Chevrolet’s revolutionary fiberglass-bodied sports car. Design and development were lengthy, originating in 1957 with sketches that won an internal contest, penned by 21-year-old Peter Brock, GM’s youngest designer at the time.

Bill Mitchell, Harley Earl’s handpicked successor as head of GM’s famed styling studios, took things further by building a new racing car, using a repurposed frame from the canceled Corvette SS program. Designed and built with GM stylist Larry Shinoda, Mitchell’s “Stingray” racer took the C-Modified SCCA class championship in 1960 with Dick “The Flying Dentist” Thompson driving. Subsequently driven around Detroit by Mitchell, his electrifying Stingray racer was a major evolutionary step, followed by the XP-755 Mako Shark show car of 1961, which predicted the next-generation Corvette that entered production under Shinoda’s able guidance by mid-1962 for the 1963 model year.

THE STORY

In the world of American muscle, certain names carry a weight far beyond horsepower ratings or quarter-mile times. Don Yenko is one of them, and so too is the late Cliff Ernst, a collector whose relentless pursuit of authenticity and passion for preservation helped keep Yenko’s legacy alive for a new generation.

At Mecum Kissimmee 2026, From the Cliff Ernst Collection will take center stage, offering bidders the chance to acquire some of the most significant cars ever to wear the Yenko name.

Chief among them is a machine of almost mythical status: the 1969 Yenko Camaro prototype, a gold-and-white supercar that stands as the very foundation of the 1969 Yenko program.

This is the very first of the five automatic 1971 Hemi Cuda convertibles produced by the Chrysler Corporation. The true pinnacle of American muscle car production, just 12 Hemi Cuda droptops of any sort came from the factory during that final year of production, each one unique in its own right. Indeed, these cars were the only factory Hemi-powered convertibles offered that year. This particular car, known as the “The White Elephant,” was constructed early in the ’71 model run, on September 9, 1970. It was likely not built with racing in mind, nor was it loaded for luxury.

Of course, the 426/425 HP Hemi engine is its calling card, hosting two Carter AFB 4-barrels under the Shaker hood scoop. Behind this went the A36 Performance Axle Package, which called for the 3.55 Sure Grip 8.75-inch differential behind the A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Ordering any Hemi resulted in frame and suspension upgrades on the assembly line, and this car also came with power steering and brakes.

Kissimmee, FL – A custom 1969 Corvette restomod will be auctioned at Mecum Kissimmee on January 16, 2026, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Curing Kids Cancer, a nonprofit dedicated to funding cutting-edge pediatric cancer research.

The owner planned on restoring his Corvette as a “forever car.” The project began with a clean, never-hit 1969 Corvette coupe and was transformed into a modern performance machine featuring a GM LT4 crate engine, Magnuson TVS 2650 supercharger, Nick Williams 103mm throttle body, and a Bowler Street Performance 4L80 transmission. The car delivers 589 rear-wheel horsepower and 670 lb-ft of torque, with every system upgraded using best-of-the-best components.

A prostate cancer diagnosis became the spark that caused the donor to rethink the project’s initial purpose. Inspiration now came from watching his daughter’s work with pediatric cancer patients and seeing firsthand the urgent need for better treatments. After learning more about the impact of Curing Kids Cancer, he made the decision to donate the entire value of the car to support lifesaving pediatric cancer research.

“We are incredibly honored by this generous gift,” said Grainne Owen, Co-Founder of Curing Kids Cancer. “As C.S. Lewis said, ‘You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.’ This donor has done exactly that—turning a personal moment of reflection into lifesaving support for children who urgently need better treatment options.”

The vehicle may be viewed here, and registered bidders can participate in person, online, or by phone, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Curing Kids Cancer.

– XM-Turnpike Cruiserheads to Kissimmee

The one-of-a-kind 1956 Mercury XM-Turnpike Cruiser concept car, which just completed a lengthy 3-1/2-year restoration in the hands of owner and restorer Tom Maruska, will be crossing Mecum’s auction block at Kissimmee, Fla., on Jan. 14.

Maruska purchased the long-hidden XM-Turnpike Cruiser in 2017 and soon began an extensive restoration of the Ghia-bodied concept car, which was covered extensively in Old Cars. The XM-Turnpike Cruiser was originally displayed with a matching Ford tractor and a trailer built with a turntable to display theconcept car, but only the car itself has survived.

The XM-Turnpike Cruiser was debuted byFoMoCo’s Mercury division at the 1956 Cleveland auto show, then appeared at the Detroit, Chicago and New York auto shows. It also paced the Daytona Beach Grand National Race on Feb. 17, 1957, by which time the 1957 Mercurys, whose styling it predicted, were in production. The XM-Turnpike Cruiser’s last public appearance was the 1957 Grand National Race, so very few people have ever seen the car in person since then. For this reason, among others, famous concept car collector Joe Bortz is expecting the XM-Turnpike Cruiser to fetch a staggering amount.

“I would expect it to certainly break into the seven-figure area,” Bortz said. “I think Tom Maruska took a car that was rough and through massaging it and everything else he did, certainly, in the pictures, it looks to be right on the money.”

Only time will tell what the final bid will be when the car sells at the Saturday climax of Mecum Kissimmee, which will run from Jan. 4-15.

NAPOLEON, Ohio – Longtime classic Corvette dealer Terry Michaelis sold his coveted #1 Mecum Auctions bidder badge (Lot Number 153) on Friday, January 14, 2022, which raised $250,000 for the childhood cancer charity Curing Kids Cancer.

Michaelis, the president and co-owner of ProTeam Corvette, Napoleon, Ohio, had long held the Mecum bidder #1 badge, after a decades-long relationship buying and selling Corvettes through the vintage car auctioneering company.

The money raised benefits Georgia-based Curing Kids Cancer’s efforts to fund new therapies for children with cancers, along with research towards finding cures.

“The world of classic cars has been very good to me and this was my opportunity to give back,” said Michaelis. “Curing Kids Cancer is a charity I believe in and their longtime association with Mecum Auctions as Mecum’s charity of choice made the decision a natural extension of my relationship with Mecum Auctions.”

Michaelis sold his #1 badge at Mecum’s classic car auction in Kissimmee, Florida last weekend. The winning bidder will have their name transferred to the badge and receive a lifetime Gold Charter membership with future auctions.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results,” said Michaels. “The generous winning bid exceeded expectations and that fortunate individual will not only be #1 with Mecum Auctions, but first in the thanks from the researchers, doctors and patients hoping to eradicate childhood cancer. I hope the funds truly help make a difference in the lives of children enduring this disease.”

Curing Kids Cancer is online at curingkidscancer.org and on Facebook at facebook.com/curingkidscancer. Donations can be made through both portals.
