This is a photo of my five great-aunts (then in their 20s) in a touring car in Ireland between 1920 and 1925. I want to see if any of your readers might recognize it. A collector I recently talked to thinks it might be a Dodge.

Thanks!
D.M.

In going through many pictures pertaining to my father-in-law, who recently passed away, I came across this photo taken in the Milwaukee, Wis., area of his family’s car prior to entering the war with the US Navy in 1943. As you will notice, the picture is not in the best condition since it looks like it was folded in his wallet while serving on a hospital ship in the Pacific theater for two years.

Since he never mentioned this car, I found it interesting to know its origin and year of the vehicle if feasible. Hopefully your staff or readers will be able to answer this mystery question. Thanks, and keep up the great editorial work which I look forward to every week.

Dave Otis

Could someone help me with the year of my great-uncle’s Buick? I keep looking at old Buick pictures, but it doesn’t quite fit the look of the ones I’ve seen. I believe it is between 1912/1918, and was a 5 passenger. The ones I’ve found close to it either has a spare on the right side, or round lights instead of the square. I thought it was the closest to the 1912 model 42.

Thanks in advance.

American history is filled with the stories of Europeans landing in North America among the indigenous “Indians.” Well, here’s a tale of a unique Indian landing in Europe.

Tim Dye of the Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum in Pontiac, Ill., recently received this mysterious photo of a European 1933 Pontiac . For anyone acquainted with “Chiefs,” or even General Motors products of the 1930s, there’s something noticeably different about this Pontiac — it wears convertible victoria coachwork often seen in Europe, but rarely fitted on production cars in the United States.

This 1933 Pontiac is certainly a coachbuilt car built for the European market, but what coachbuilder constructed the body? Where was that company based? European coachbuilders that fit their work to mass-produced chassis often fitted similar bodies to many different makes, so how many were built? What other cars used this same (or very similar) victoria body fitted on this Pontiac?

This is a picture of my father, Mac Macdonald, driving his pride and joy from Barton, Md., to central Wisconsin, where he had gotten a job as a lifeguard.

I remember him telling me that it was a fairly hairy drive, with many rough patches of not very well marked roads and a few pretty tough characters along the way. He camped in quite a few different spots (I think you can see his tarp tied on), and said it was one of the best times he ever had.

Whenever I look at this photo, it reminds me of where my interest in all sorts of neat cars probably came from.

I would like the car identified if possible. Thank you for your help.

Yours truly,
Bill Macdonald

I ran across this print in my photos of my family history. I am not familiar with the car or the possible modification that was done to the roof. It is not much to go on but maybe one of the experts knows something.

I believe the person in the photo is Charles Hood of the dairy that bore his name. He and my great grandfather John LeFeber were good friends and in the same business. Our family was connected with the Gridley Dairy.
